and brought home a lovely Zygo "Beverly Lou", but it is confusing - there is a prefix of Npp. in front of the name? Is that a cross, or something within the genus? Please educate me!

Npp = Neopabstopetalum or (Neogardneria x Pabstia x Zygopetalum) Hope this helps. It's called a "complex intergeneric".

you can find a rather large list here. it's not complete by any means, but it'll have most of the ones you'll run across.
edit: the same site also has a list of intergenerics here(pdf)

Hi Kathy,

I use the Royal Horticultural Society's website when looking up intergeneric names and abbreviations for them. They are very complete and include new genera.

This first one allows you to look up alphabetically using only abbreviations: Abbreviations for orchid genera

This one alphabetically lists the name of the genera along with its components: List of genera with components

I hope this helps!

I use the second one. I print out the most current and keep next to the computer as an everyday reference.
