Question New here with a couple questions.

Hey everybody,
The name's Mike. I've recently returned from Iraq and am anxious to get back to enjoying growing things. I've decided that I'm so fascinated with orchids that I'm just going to turn my little greenhouse into an orchidhouse. Upon returning home though, most of my orchids are in bad shape (as I left them with my mother in my haste) and one was just a shrivel of brown twigs. I think I'll be able to nurture them all back to health (the oncidium actually started growing keikis but the pseudobulbs are shriveling). I went to an orchid show this past weekend and bought a few new ones and one of them I had a couple questions about. It's an Angraecum Florulentum and it's a wee guy. I'll attach a picture of it. It needs to be repotted as it fell out of it's pot upon purchase and when I was researching this plant it was hard to find much info on it. If anybody has any info on this species I'd greatly appreciate a better handle on it's care. From what I gather it has a very delicate and peculiar root system. I just don't want to kill the poor thing.
Thanks, I hope to learn lots!
Mike

Welcome home! Were you serving in the armed forces? I'm glad you're home safe. Not an expert, but wanted to say thanks to you for your service to our country. <-- kind of looks like a salute.

Welcome home, guy. Glad you showed up here.

Personally I wouldn't repot your Angraecum, I'd mount it. Most of mine are mostly mounted an I have much better luck that way - but then mine are in a sealed "tank" (wardian case). I know they like high humidity and pretty high light (like 1000-2000 foot-candles).

hi Mike, Thank you for serving our country! We appreciate you!
I have an Angraecum Leonis and from what I have read, Angraecums love good air flow. I have mine hanging in a 4" wooden slatted box in bark and coconut husk mix. Mounting is also great. I have mine in lower light, not bright light. That was the instructions I got with mine when I got it about 1 1/2 years ago. It's doing well, but is young yet, so hasn't blossomed. Hope that helps in some way. I couldn't find your particular orchid, so went with the general care.

I have no Angraecum's myself but one of my society members showed me one that was around 2-3ft tall with a 8-9inch basal keiki. He stated that the keiki started around 10 years ago and that the particular Angraecum grows extremely slow. Just from that particular statement makes me hesitant to get one of my own... All of his were either mounted or in a basket.

Wow, thanks so much for all the advice and knowledge you've all given me. I'm heading into town tomorrow in search of a slab to mount the Angraecum. Hopefully I'll get my fogger soon so it'll benefit from a humid greenhouse. You'll be sure to hear from me in other posts asking for advice and I hope it keeps on coming. Thanks again,
Mike
