Default Hello from new member - Weston, FL

Wow! What a great site! I came upon it this morning while looking for a bird vet (Dr Monk). I have been growing orchids for over 30 years here in south Florida as a hobby. I have about 60 plants and at least 15 are blooming right now. Great time of year in south Florida! I will be back again, but now I need to find a vet for my bird. Look forward to chatting with other orchid lovers.

Hi and welcome! Hope your bird is OK. What kind is it? Pets are almost as popular as orchids here. Keep us posted on both.

Hi Susie Welcome to Orchidboard

I hope all is well with your bird. We'd love to hear more about him...or her We have a forum set up just for our pets so when you have some time, pictures would be great

I see Weston is much further south than I am...did you go to the WOC in Miami a few weeks ago?

What types of 'chids are you growing?

Questions, questions, questions...

If you need help with anything, let us know

Hello! Thank you all for your kind welcome. I am back from the vet. My lovebird, Squawker, is not doing too well. I thought she had a broken leg, but that is not the case. She is weak and very run-down due to something else, disease or tumor? So she got a hydration and antibiotic and pain med injection. She is not young and the prognosis is not good. I will hope and pray for the best!

But my orchids are all happy and healthy. It is easy to grow them in South Florida. I have about 60. All the usuals catayleas, phaelenopsis, dendrobiums, vandas, brassiavola (I know I probably spelled all of those wrong. Sorry!) I have 1 renanthera that I can't get to bloom, but everything else is beautiful right now. I keep them outside in a mini orchid house and bring them inside when they are blooming. I went to the WOC and to Tamiami on the same day! I picked up 7 more plants (which I don't need to do!) but it was too hard to resist. Yesterday was beautiful so I spent the day potting, trimming, moving them around, etc. My kids say I love my orchids more than them. They call them "my other children" which is a little bit true.. sometimes. LOL. Once again, nice to meet you all!

LOL...tell your "kids" that the orchids are their brothers and sisters! The other 'chids" That should have them grabbing the big butterfly net for you in no time

I would've loved to attend the Tamiani Festival, I have nothing but respect for Martin Motes...I was only down that way for the opening day of the WOC...which was mind-boggling!

All of your new friends here on OB will be sending positive thoughts to Squawker. So sad when one of our babies is not well
