Default Introduction from Phoenix

Hello. Growing orchids again after a long hiatus. Grew them as a kid in California but stopped upon moving to Arizona due to the climate and no greenhouse.

My main horticultural interest has always been cactus and succulents. Eulophia petersii is as easy to grow as the easiest cactus, and I've had it for a while. Then I got a few other Eulophs and bloomed callichroma. Then I figured I might as well close my sunroom during the summer and raise the humidity in there. I joined the AOS and then the Desert Valley Orchid Society last fall. My main problems are summer heat and low home/outdoor humidity most of the year and occasional overnight winter frost.

I've picked up a few seedlings from meeting speakers. Fred Clarke talked to us and said Catasetums like hot summer nights. That is easy for me. I bought two from him and they took off.

I'm about to bloom a Nageliella purpurea from Guillermo Salazar.

Welcome to OB! I am sure that there are others here that have dealt with the same temp/humidity issues, so you will be in good company

Hope to "see" you around the OB!
