Greeetings from NYC!
Hello! My name is Patricia and my love for orchids started nine years ago at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Read more about me in my personal blog. I have an orchid dilemma at the moment but I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

Tindomul1of9,
I'm also in Queens and was wondering if you know of any orchid societies in Queens or any thing that pertains to orchids in the area?
Thank you for welcoming me.

Glad you posted an intro, your initial blog was great!
I still can't believe you bought a $200.00 orchid...in front of your husband!!!
I grew up in Queens, lived there most of my life before heading south. What area are you in?
Come join us in the chat room, we have a very interesting time with some great folks Hope to see you there.

Patricia, I'm new to orchid societies, as this forum is probably the closest thing I have to one. But I did go to the International Orchid Show at Rockefellar Center in April. I think its a yearly thing. Nice show.
I've never found any nurseries that sell orchids in the area, but there is one store that always has a nice selection of orchids in the Chelsea Market. Only been there twice, and always on a Sunday, so I haven't been able to visit them.

Patricia, I don't know of any OS in Queens but I know the one in Nassau is held at Rockville Center. I joined last month. Meetings are second thursday of every month starting around 7:30pm/8pm. Glen Decker from Piping rock (SLIPPERS! ) will be there next week. I haven't decided if I wanted to go yet no money tuition loan payments start this month And if I go I know I'll end up buying something.

Patricia,
I don't have exact distances but Rocjville Center is the very beginning of Nassau County, so it's not very far, depending on what part of Queens you're in.

Where's Glen??? lol...Neways.
Patricia, the person that helped me is Karen. Her email address is KJSchae1@aol.com. I remember her saying she won't be at the next meeting because she's going to go on vacation but shooting her an email is worth a shot. If Karen doesn't respond to you you can always come in to sit in. I'm sure it'll be ok. That's what i did the first time.
Susanne's right, Rockville Center is near the border of queens and nassau so it can be very close depending where in queens you live. I take the southern state to exit 19 to get there. From the exit I'd say it takes no longer than 10 minutes to get to the place.
If there Rockville Center is to far there's also one in Manhattan

I got all the info from

Aboard Patricia, glad you joined, your blog is great. We have come to one of the best orchid boards on the web, we are a fun group with a lot of knowledge to share and don't hesitate to ask a question. Marco, playing a safety huh...priorities, hate when they get in the way of a good orchid show/buy, its great when you know your weakness.
