Welcome to the rest of your life. I am/was from NYC too so I k now the challenges. Not a lot of places to buy orchid in NY. You should definitely check out the Brooklyn botanical garden(free wed? if I recall). They have a nice collection. When I was living in NY I always drove out to Parkside orchids.

They are located 'bout 2 hours from the city. You gotta take the GWB. I would definitely say they r the best nursery in the Northeast. I started out with orchids from home depot and the first time I went to parkside changed my life, and the balance in my bank
