Hello from Down Under :)
Default Hello from Down Under :)

Hi All ,
I'm an orchid lover but also a newbie to growing them.

I live in South Australia (SA) - temperate in climate where we have some lovely native orchids & every year I enjoy them whilst walking the dog during their flowering season.

I'm also a keeper of aquariums - planted with tropical fish, planted with Green Tree frogs & the most recent a paludarium with Green Tree Frogs, tropical fish & shrimp.

I've recently decided to try combining my interests & adding some tropical orchids to my paludarium. As with many I am trying a phalaenopsis orchid as my first - this is the only type easily available to me at this time of year. Once I track down a supplier, I hope to try a minature planted in the substrate & a micro minature epiphyte mounted on a branch. I'm in the process of learning about the suitable species & which ones are available to me in Oz.

g'day! There must be some good orchid vendors in Oz that will ship great plants to you.

Have a look in
Australian Orchid Council Inc. - Orchids Australia Magazine

Also, there are threads here somewhere that mention what orchids work fairly well in (tropical) terraria. Try http://www.orchidboard.com/community...errariums.html and other topics in Terrarium Gardening - Orchid Board - Most Complete Orchid Forum on the web !
