So Cal hobbyist
I'm a southern California resident who has been growing orchids for nigh on twenty years here. My mom got me interested back in the 1970's, and she's just now giving up a lot of her orchids as she is moving from Portland, OR to Minnesota. She also has a complete collection of AOS ORCHIDS magazines from 2003-2013, in case anyone near Portland is interested in picking them up! Free! Who knows, she might even be willing to mail them.

As for my orchids: I have a bunch of cymbidiums outside--mostly things my mom couldn't get to bloom in Oregon. They bloom effortlessly here. I also have a Laelia gouldiana that does pretty well and a Laelia anceps that is trying to recover from a bad freeze a few years back. Indoors, I have a Brassavola nodosa that blooms regularly, a Meiracylium trinasutum that's pretty happy, and a little Mexican thing that I don't remember the name of. Also a Bulbophyllum lepidum syn flabellum-veneris that usually blooms without my noticing it (it's up pretty high!). Sometimes, though, I smell something bad in my bedroom and figure out it's the Bulbo blooming.
