new member intro'
Hello, everyone. My name's Steve and I'm a hobbyist living in the Midwest of the US (central Indiana). I have approximately two dozen orchids, the majority of which are species. My favorite genus is Aerides, and basically half of my collection is made up of Aerides species. The rest is a mix of odds and ends: Stanhopea nigroviolacea, Lycaste Concentration, a couple of Cymbidium hybrids, two Cattleya amethystoglossa seedlings (a LONG way away from flowering, but for now they don't take up much room), a couple plants of Neofinetia falcata, and a bunch of Angraecoids for the balance. I also have a few "ant plants" (Hydnophytum and Myrmecodia species), but so far--unfortunately--none of the local ant species have cared to take up residence (much to the relief, I might add, of my significant other).
I found this website by accident, actually, when Googling something else the other day. I have to admit that I was pretty happy to find it. I'm not a member of the AOS, so other than a couple of pals who think it's a (sort of) interesting hobby, there aren't too many people around here who I can talk to about the orchids (let alone the oddball ant plants!). This should hopefully turn out to be a decent resource, and perhaps along the way I can provide some modestly helpful information of my own periodcally.
