hello there
I'm Jodi, from the frozen wasteland of Northern MN... wheres the snow?
heh, anyway, I've had orchids...kinda. you know how it goes, I bought one of those pretty bloomers from a local department store *coughs* TARGET *coughs* some died...
two years ago, I bought another, and... its alive still. whoot, right?
I got it to re-bloom a year ago in a little ten gallon aquarium I threw it in for kicks.
I actually do like flowers, I just didn't (until a few days ago) have a clue as to what an orchid wants.
Then, I decided to switch around aquariums, buy a new one, downgrade my saltwater tank, and that leaves me.. here!!!
Where is here?
30-35 gallon hex tank (over 100 liters, right?) its 28" tall, 18" each side... 24 inches deep... I think that was what the measurements were. It comes out to about 32... US gallons.
so, heres the plan (in my head) have a nice cork-type background, down to a rocky bottom. a pool in the bottom, power head shooting water up the back of the background. Waterfall, I have limestone/marble for making a tiered waterfall along the back. bromeliads and orchids ahoy... on more tiered layers up the back of the tank, some in pots on the ground.
I just need to figure out how to grow orchids better. Find out which ones like what, what would do good in my tank, things of that nature.
lighting, I know natural rain water...
my long-term goals is actually a vivarium, with zebra fish in the 'pond' (4 inches of water, maybe 5) and a grouping of 4 dart frogs.-in a year.
SOOO, so far I have one poor, what I do think I remember being a phalenopsis orchid. (like I can spell that yet-ha)
so I'll be here, reading away.

Wow! First - welcome!
Second, lots of questions. I'd recommend researching the section of this board having to do with terrarium gardening http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ium-gardening/ to see if your questions are already being answered or discussed. There's been a lot of discussion lately on creating "orchidariums" and even a chat room for this.

ok, since I was on chat, heres a better intro:
I'm almost 25 years old, have 2 kids... soon to be 6 and 1, their b-days are exactly a week apart.
Fiancee, hes a bum :P but promised to buy me orchids for my b-day in july
I have a zoo at my house:
I have a dog, well, hes a puppy, hes an 8 month old akita named Lotus (hes only 70 lbs, has another 50 to put on-yes, puppy!!!)
Mantis is my current bird, hes a quaker and I just rescued him. Hes 5, been abused, things like that.
Orchid is the parrot I'll be getting, its a Green Naped Rainbow Lorikeet (people from AUS will know what that is!) yes, I had him named before I got into orchids more.
Squishy is my cat... shes lazy and hates dogs.. feel sorry for her!!! she lives in total fear-ok, not really, but she pretends to.
My past parrots are Dragonfly and Marigold. They were killed by a different cat. different cat (its name was splat) went to a new home... Dragonfly was very pretty, you can see her all over the internet, but heres a good site to see her (I really miss her) Dragonfly
hmm, think that covers a long intro... I love my birds, I do
