Thanks rsfrid for the information. This provides some benchmarks on the level of lightings required as supplements to the natural lighting. Will try to follow what you did. Thanks.

You're welcome. There's a big diff between supplemental lighting in northern latitudes and what is needed say in Florida. Our sunlight is VERY weak compared to southern latitudes even in summer. In summer (up till the hail storm of 2006) I regularly placed my orchids (including phals) out on deck where they got full sun during parts of the day. Since they got pelted with hail last year I will rethink that, but point is you need lots of light. If you can take an adequately exposed picture in your grow area without flash, you have enough.

Thanks Ross,

I will start with a lower light level before moving to higher light levels. When I see the leaves turn dark green I will move the to higher lighting areas. Started with too much sun light could damage the orchids, right?
