Hello
Hi, my name is Laure and I live in Vermont. I used to grow orchids years ago, mainly miniatures in terrariums (actually fishtanks). This was going fine until I got married and move into a very small, very arid apartment with no extra room for terrariums and lousy light as well. So much for the orchids. Now, 16 years later we just moved into a house which is not so arid as our apartment and has plenty of room. Namely a 5 foot long south facing window with a 7 inch deep ledge in the kitchen. . Naturally, my first thought was, "hey I can grow orchids again! Since we moved in the fall and it was getting too cold for shipping to Vermont I have been waiting for spring to start buying plants. I've begun compiling lists of what I want to get and searching online for various information, which is how I found this site. I love miniature species and look forward to building a collection again. This looks like a great site to get information and help, I'm glad I found it.

Hi Laure. Welcome aboard! You'll soon see all the collections the other members have, and you will be dreaming dancing ladys, and moth flowers flying over you head. Toilet bowl orchids, and lady slippers too hehe. Anyway, congrats on your new home, and I have always dreamed of a big window facing the south to warm up and brighten a living space.

Aboard Laurie, is great youv'e join in on our community, where a wealth of information awaits you. Sounds like you have the bug again, WTG... The OB has a gallery where you can share your s and see what other members are growing, small is good. I as well grow indoors in a breakfast nook, looked so huge a year ago, rethinking on placing a few (onc. and vanda's) on the patio, few moved to livingroom, busting at the seams but what a way to go.... We all you...

Hello Laure,
Welcome to the Board!
With a new house sounds like you have LOTS of room for orchids. I am sure the shelf will not be enough!!

hello cont.
I'm hoping to get things going soon. But I need to get terrariums and other supplies first. And with moving from a very small apartment into a larger house we're finding we don't have as much 'stuff' as we thought and a lot of what we had needed to be replaced. (we really needed a new kitchen table and we've GOT to get rid of that old couch!) The house is also really old (mid to late 1800's) and while we're renting there are a lot of little things that need fixing up that we're taking care of (read $$). It also doesn't help that I returned to college part time to finish a degree I started 20 years ago..... I know, excuses, excuses, but I WILL get orchids! Right now I'm having a lot of fun making my wish list, finding sellers (any recommendations for miniature species vendors?) and rereading my old orchid care books. I need to get my orchid reading in now 'cause classes start again next week and if I know my history instructor I'm not going to have any free time for anything very soon...
