Default Greetings from Florida

Hello forum. Greetings from Florida.

I'm sort of a beginner with orchids. I took over the care of a phalaeonopsis over a year ago, maybe closer to two years ago. It was in poor shape, two small leaves, rotting roots. I trimmed away the dark, soft roots and potted in a terracotta pot with new potting mix. After a while it started a new leaf and now it has multiple larger leaves and is growing a flower spike. I would say my most important realization was regarding feeding. I had been using some orchid fertilizer I purchased on Amazon. Recently I switched to an MSU brand.

Pleased with myself, I purchased another orchid the other day. Researching information of different potting solutions led me to this forum.

I'll post a couple questions over in Beginner Disussions.

Welcome!

Do some reading here before expanding more. There are thousands of orchids you can grow in Florida. Many can stay outside all year, but not all.

Hey there! Your location gives you the opportunity to try many species. But know your growing conditions, read and you'll be on your way.

Thanks everyone.

@DeaC I wish. I'm at the limit, or close, for the space I have and the number of plants I want to carry in when it gets cold. There is only one reason I would want to live in S. Florida and that is to have many orchids and epiphytic cactus outside year round.

@FranningtonBear Hah Hah. Been raining here since early morning, low 37F tomorrow morning, and 32F the next morning. But low will be back up in the 40s and 50s after this, and highs in 60s.

We were in drought conditions the last two (or three?) summers. Hope we are back to usual weather patterns now.

BTW I used to following some wet shaving forums. I know about enablers.
