I'm Craig and I've been caring for all manner of orchids since I was a child. My mom had a greenhouse and kept--at the time--very exotic orchids. This was long before you could find an orchid at the local Piggly Wiggly or Home Depot. I took a Phal when I went off to college, it thrived in my dorm room window and I've been hooked ever since.
Currently in our tiny NYC apartment I keep 6 garden-variety Phals which are being oddly and consistently productive in north facing windows, one Slipper whose first bloom in 5+ years was recently crushed by our housekeeper (I don't even remember what color it blooms) and an ancient (at least 60 y.o. from my mom's greenhouse) Dendrobium Nobile that is taciturn at best.
