Hi all! Recently I acquired this Phalaenopsis that didn’t come with an identification tag. It looks like a speciosa to me but I’ve never seen one with such bright purple splotches and a sweet scent. Can anyone confirm it’s ID thanks!
It doesn't look or smell like my speciosa, there can be a bit of variation in blooms but I think it looks the wrong shape too, I think it will probably be a hybrid.
Looks like a hybrid, but which one is difficult to say, there are quite a lot of them.
As an aside, anyone know if speciosa and tetraspis are synonyms (and which is the currently accepted name in that case), or if they are just very closely related species? I know that there's a lot of controversy of the naming of the C1 type.

Here are my speciosa and tetraspis there appears to be a slight difference to the bloom shape otherwise they are quite similar. Two differences in opinion though as to the same or different species.

At the moment it looks like they are accepted to be two different species. At the moment. Tomorrow, could be different.
