Lycaste ID brevispatha? Male
Default Lycaste ID brevispatha?

Hello,

I had purchased a bunch of orchids from a co-worker about 3 years ago. One being a lycaste, it’s gone through ups and downs, I was going to get rid of it one year. But it has pulled through and is for the first time blooming for me!! Prior to this first bloom, the ID on the pot says Lycaste Brevispatha, there is also a number on it 1284, no idea what this means.

I want to know if anyone can confirm that this is what is it, I’m questioning the ID, because there is a lot of content about lycaste aroma, and others but I don’t find much under brevispatha, I’ve seen strawberry fizz looks similar. Is that just a common name.

I’ll attach some pix
The bloom is not fully open yet.

Always good times!
Thank you for all the help
Todd

Can you post a photo that shows the full flower? I found it in Orchidwiz, and from what I can see of the flower it does match with Lyc. brevispatha, but a view that includes the lip would be helpful.

I will for sure it just started to open last night, I should get a better one tomorrow!
Thank you so much

Honestly I was 100% expecting it to be yellow, but this is a nice surprise

I’m going to check out orchidwiz info for this seems to be scarce

Thank you
Todd

Nice job flowering it.

The number might be the catalog number from the original vendor. If you search on Lycaste 1284 you might find an old Web page mentioning it.

Orchidwiz has a bunch of pictures, there is a lot of variation in the species. But this does look like the dominant color form.
