Your hunch was right. It is an Oncidium type, possibly a Beallara, although without a label it's impossible to be specific. It will need a bit more light than a phalaenopsis, an east or west facing window would be ideal. They require more watering than a phalaenopsis too, keeping them moist and not allowing it to dry too much, a fine bark is a good medium to grow them in. They will flower off new pseudobulbs, but keep the old ones as they contribute towards keeping the plant healthy. They do best repotted when a new pseudobulb is starting to grow new roots.
