Just picked up this beaut today, the grower told me it was an anceps x orpicx, but I think something may have gotten lost in translation/bad spelling, as I can't find any reference to that second name. Can anyone shine a light on this for me?
There are very few Cattleya alliance hybrids that begin with orp:
C. (Sl.) Orpetii
C. (Slc.) Orpetii's Leap
C. (Lc.) Orpheus
Rlc. (Bc.) Orpheus
C. (Bl.) Orphic
There is only one registered L. anceps hybrid with any of those - C. Orpetii x L. anceps (Lc. Cosmo-Orp).
This flower is perhaps believable as Lc. Cosmo-Orp, based on similarity with Lc. Amoena. None of the others besides C. Orpetii was much (or at all) used in breeding based on registration records, and C. Orphic is probably the only other that likely could give a result similar to this.
All speculation there, and assuming that the correct spelling even began with orp, and that L. anceps really is a parent.
Thanks for the replies. Managed to speak directly to the grower this morning, he confirmed it as a C. Orphic x L. Anceps, his own creation. Mystery solved
