Mini dendrobium of some sort, but what

After a trip to my local DIY store for totally unorchid related purposes, I came home with a really pretty mini dendrobium Noid. I don't really have the space for more orchids at the moment, but there is always room for one more!! It did have 2 spikes, but the minute I walked in the door, I promptly dropped it on the floor and broke a spike. I stood there dumbly with the half unpotted plant in one hand, the spike in the other and was ready to scream in utter frustration.

The plant is about 3.5 inches tall, 8 inches with the spike. Flowers are 1.5 inches across. I don't mind it remaining a NOID forever, but having an idea of what it could be would tell me if it needs a winter rest period or not! Also, since this is my first Den, what type of watering and light does it need?

i have no idea of the parents but i'd be surprised if it would need a cold rest.
often orchid crosses sold in "regular" shops are planned with indoor-culture in mind.
a beautiful plant nevertheless

try keeping it warm first and later if it refuses to rebloom start "messing with the culture"

It shouldn't need any kind of special care...I give my Dens bright light and water them along with all the others.

Don't worry about the spike...you're sure to get more

So you mean that you would water it straight through the winter? As for the spike, I was a bit upset because I broke it before I even had a chance to admire it a few days... At least there's the other one! I am so over this plant!

I'm a little puzzled as to what it could be. It looks like a Phal type Den, with the exception that it doesn't have long cannes, but little round squat things. I tried the website it had on the tag, but the site doesn't seem to exist...

Yes, it would get watered year round. As with any orchid, watering should be somewhat reduced in the winter months anyway...whether it calls for a "winter rest" or not.

Camille,I can understand your distress. It is a bit of a setback,but I'm sure the plant will recover. I love it! I have one that looks similar and also is nameless.
