Hello,
I was curious if anyone knew of a good place to have orchid name tags made or a good way to do it yourself.
Thanks in advance

Because I'm cheap and like to reuse I cut them out of soda cans (easy to cut and impervious to everything). I use an old ball point pen to indent the info on them.

Obviously this isn't very practical if you have very many.

I use white plant labels and a fine line sharpie. I also number the bottom of the pot and keep an excel file with those numbers with all the plants information. Plus I keep a photo as the orchids bloom and label it the excel file #.

There are waterproof labels you can run through your printer, if you want to spend that much.

Plant labels are super cheap from any large greenhouse supplier.

here's a sample, but all supply houses have them.

If you're frugal like me , .cut empty yogurt container into strips. there's recycling for you The inside is white you can easily write with a sharpie or pencil.

You can get tags at many nurseries / garden centers / hardware / hydroponics supply (ebay, too!)...
I use an inexpensive label maker (white tape, black print) and stick that on the tag. Pencil works well. Sharpie ink can fade quickly, tho I have been using a fine point "industrial" Sharpie and that seems to be working well.

Do NOT rely on Sharpie markers. They fade, and fairly quickly too.

In art supply stores you can get paint pens. They do not fade.

When I have a bunch of identical labels to be done, I use my Brother label maker (black on either white or clear tape). They last for years (I have some that are 6-7 years old).

Thumbs up

I too have found that even permanent sharpies for gardening fade in the sun after a year or two. I buy inexpensive plastic tags and use a lead pencil which does not seem to fade or rub off. Some use a label maker to attach stickers to their tags, which seems to work well also.

Pen and markers seem to fade, but pencil works great. All plastic eventually gets brittle, so aluminum it the best option. Nutgirl, I hadn't thought of using a soda can, that's brilliant!
