Help with ID of Cattleya.
Hello everyone. I had this Cattleye for a year now. When I got it it did not have a flower, so I pay very little for it. The problem I'm having is that the tag say: SVO 1237 Blc. Izumi Charm. And as you can see from the picture, the flower does not match the description on the registry, which describes the orchid as a bright yellow flower and a cross of "Blc. Izumi Charm 'Bright Yellow' x Blc. Lovely Toshie 'Nice One'"
It does have a cluster of 5 flowers.
So I'm wondering if the plant comes in other colors then just yellow or I got a plant with the wrong ID from the grower, which can happen, specially if they misplace the tags during planting or transplanting.
Thanks for your help.

Try calling Sunset Valley Orchids and send them a photo to verify.
They're the ones who would be able to tell you better than any of us can.

You bought a seedling and the description is what they expected to get from the cross, so I figure your flower/plant is still in the realm of possibilities. It simply looks like your seedling didn't get much of the yellow from either parent =\
It is also a real possibility that it was labeled incorrectly, but I'm just saying that their expectation and reality could easily be very different.

Within a seedling population, you can have wide variety of color, shape, size, number of flowers per spike, growth rate, height of plant, fragrance, and any other characteristic you care to track.
Having said that, i don't know whether the color your plant is showing is within the realm of possibilities for this grex. Only SVO can really say, as they presumably have seen several of the seedlings bloom.

Thanks for the info. I did wonder if I got an unspected color, but I would think that it would have some yellow in it, maybe the spots or something. But will find out once I call the nursery.

I actually bout two seedlings, one of which is the one in bloom and the other still not there yet. That I think I know what the flower will look like, but again I will only find out once it blooms.
Just like with one mini phal. that flower this spring, It gave me 3 flowering spikes, each with 3 secondary branches. And on one of the spikes, there was one flower with two lips, and that was the only flower on all the plant with two lips. That is the fun part of getting seedling, sometimes you get surprise blooms.

Wanted to update you on the mystery of this Catt. So I got a response from S.O.V. and it turns out I got a Penny Kuroda "Spots". So I will have to make room for one more Catt because I still want a bright yellow one.

Congrats on following up! Yes, I see no Toshie anything in it.
Buying seedlings is always a roll of the dice....but also, an adventure!

I've got a BLC Taiwan Ruby, bright yellow with red lip. My most stunning Catt. By far. I love that bright "danger" yellow.
