What is growing on my Epidendrum? Female
Default What is growing on my Epidendrum?

I bought this epidendrum at a local nursery. I just noticed that it has an unusual growth on one of the flower spikes. Has anyone seen this before or know what it is?

What do I do with it? Can an amateur grow new plants from the seeds?

You'll need to grow them in a sterile agar solution. Oftentimes you can contact a local orchid nursery and pay a fee to have them grow your seed for you, but you have to decide whether or not you want possibly dozens of seedlings to care for. It is a rewarding experience though.

Or you can let Troy Meyers flask it for you. Here is a link to their website.

If you don't wish to try flasking, or dealing with that, you can leave it, or cut it off.
