What is the name of the white Phalaenopsis with the bit of yellow on the lip that you can find in every grocery store, newsstand, bodega, etc.?

I have an extremely good specimen of one that grows like a beast and am now really wondering what it is.

There's lots and lots of large white phal hybrids that look extremely similar.
I don't really think you'll get a solid answer on this one.

It probably does not have a name, but is just one of the numerous NoID phals.

But, I'm guessing that many of the white, large flowered phals that are used as is, and that are also dyed to provide the crazy and artificial colored phals in the supermarkets and everywhere, are based on the species Phalaenopsis amabilis, Phalenopsis aphrodite and Phalaenopsis philippinensis (and then probably some others as well).

I also got one of those amazing white NoID phals that just keeps going and put on a stunning display whenever it is in flower. They might not have the most impressive coloration, but they are just elegant and beautiful in their simplicity. I love them.

So if I ever try to cross it with a phal with a more interesting flower to try to get the vigor of this plant with properties of the flower of the other, what would I call it?

It would be a NoID phalaenopsis hybrid, and you can call it whatever you want for yourself, but it can probably never be registered under a hybrid name because one (or both) of the parentage plants is (are) unknown.

You probably never will be able to identify it, but "grows like a beast" certainly describes the Phal. White Dream 'V3' that I've had for a few years, as does the rest of your description. But as others have pointed out, many different white Phal hybrids look very similar.

Mine lives in coconut husk chips in a 5 quart paint bucket with holes drilled in it. After this year's spike finished its winter show and rested a bit, it put out 2 branches which stayed in bloom well into the summer.

Unfortunately, the spider mites liked it as much as I do and may have set it back a bit by the time I noticed their handiwork.

If you are interested in breading one like this, it's going to be best to find a named one that is the same colours and has similar vigor. Then use that to breed. Of course if you just want to bread something for your self you can use a NoID, but the result can never be registered.

Silje is right that these are usually based on Phalaenopsis amabilis, Phalenopsis aphrodite and Phalaenopsis philippinensis, in fact many of the large flowered NoIDs are based on this to give the large flowers and vigor, but with others added to give the variety of colours.

I have a similar NoID which is very vigorous but I of course I have no idea what it is exactly.
