Default Cattelya-type plant with inflorescences of small flowers

I'm wondering what general type of plant this is. My neighbor gave it to me. From the leaves and pseudobulbs it appears to be at a Cattleya, but it has flowers that look nothing like the corsage type Cattleyas I've had before. Can anyone shed some light onto what this is? Thanks!

I can't seem to post a link here, it's on img42.imageshack.us

Yeah, the flowers do look like those, thanks.

It's been so long since I grew orchids I forgot so much about them but I'm getting back into it.

I feel so stupid now after a few months of re-learning Orchids to think that this was a Cattleya just because it had pseudobulbs!

Anyway, it is just starting to flower again now! :

So I present the flowers and ask again if anyone knows what it is? I've seen lots of references to 'Sharry Baby' (sp?) and it does look like that one, but that is supposed to be fragrant, these flowers are not, at least yet.

Could be Sharry Baby ... or something similar ... Very nice!

If there's to be fragrance, it can be a few days after flowers open before fragrance develops. Check in A.M., and when sun hits the plant ...

Hey
the yellow one in the first picture might be a sort of "mule ear" oncidium. The Red one is one of Sharry Baby's kids.

Take care
Have fun

Remember they are addicting, and we are enablers <grin>

Thanks. Actually, they are of the same plant. In the first picture, the flowers are dying and falling off that's why they're a different color. That's why I got it for free - I caught my neighbor in the act of throwing it away!

I think Sharry Baby is likely, I think he buys a lot of orchids from Trader Joe's and they apparently sell that one often from what I've read here.

Sharry Baby likes to grow and bloom on about a 9 or 10 month cycle, and will have speckled foliage; smells of chocolate, or chocolate and vanillia to most folks.

Enjoy. Hard to kill, easy to grow, and so reliable for me.

Take care
may all your orchids bloom like crazy
