Talking Fragrant small flowering orchid

Hi everyone- Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I just got an orchid for Christmas (mom was afraid she would kill it before Christmas) and was wondering what type of orchid it is.
The blooms have a sweet smelling low fragrance, and I was looking around and cannot find anything about it. Does anyone know what type it is?
Any help is appreciated :-)

Do you think you could get a close up of the flowers?

Reminds me of Oncidium twinkle, but it might be tough to get more detailed than that. A better pic of the flowers will help.

Looks like Onc Twinkle to me too. I have one in bloom now as well and I would describe the fragrance as a spicy.

I ordered a red oncidium twinkle from a place and it doesn't have a scent, at all. Are there different oncidium twinkles?

Yes, there are a ton of these that have been produced. Some are fragrant, and some aren't. See if upping the light on yours will bring out a scent. Sometimes it's light and humidity that brings out the fragrance.

Oh also should I try repotting it? It is in all spaghnum moss. I took the top portion off so it is not so wet/moist or should I wait until it is finished blooming, whenever that will be. LOL

Wait till it's done blooming unless you have reason to believe it's rotting roots. I like moss and it works great for me, but it's a picky substrate, and not right for everyone. It shouldn't stay wet for more than 1.5 weeks. 1 week is better in general, but this comes with caveats, so it's really tough to say.

Default Oncidium ID

It looks a lot like a Onc. Twinkle variety to me also; a closer pic would help though. If you want to see the variations available within this name, just Google 'Oncidium Twinkle" and then look at the images. It will blow your mind with the range of color and size that go by this name .
Most of these are smaller growing, prolific bloomers, usually with a multitude of small, long lasting flowers. There is a variety of this at the Indianapolis Museum of Art greenhouse and it blooms heavily twice a year and is VERY fragrant.
I agree not to repot until it has bloomed and is ready to move into a growth stage. But, I also warn you to be very careful with your watering until that time. In pure sphagnum, I would leave it on the drier side in order to avoid rotting the roots, and when you repot the IMA Twinkle loves to be in coco chips in a wooden slatted pot. But oncidiums are really prone to root rot in heavy damp mediums like pure sphagnum. They love having air around their roots!
- it's a great little orchid to own and yours is a beaut!
Grow long and prosper!
Steve
