Phal. lueddemaniana or hieroglyphica?
I bought this Phal labeled as P. lueddemaniana, but have always wondered if it was actually hieroglyphica. I saw a post on here for hieroglyphica, and it looks very similar, so I am wondering if anyone with Phal species experience might be able to weigh in on this. Thanks!!

Generally Phal lueddemanniana has darker and more densely spaced barring. But there is also quite a bit of variation in their markings. Still, I would also be tempted to say that this is Phal hieroglyphica. I could be very wrong, I only have been seriously interested in Phal species for 6 months!

I do know that luedd has more of a reddish purple backround, and hiero has a more white backround, so it could be hiero, or a hybrid between the two, but I cannot be sure.

I didn't think about it maybe being a hybrid, that's very well possible!

The lip is not typical of hieroglyphica... possibly a hybrid between luedde and hiero. But from what I can see in the photo, it doesn't have the typical patch of trichomes on the lip. Here is a link to a photo of a luedde that is from Phals.net http://www.phals.net/lueddemanniana/03ph0153.jpg
It looks similar in markings to the one you posted.

Need a good close up of the lip... But based on the picture we do have, it looks like a hybrid. The lip is wrong for both luedde and hiero IMHO.

Yes, it looks like a violacea hybrid.
