Identification Help for the Newbie?
Hey guys. I just joined, and I have two Orchids that I can't quite identify on my own. I have a few vague ideas; but as far as specifics on hybridization and all go, I'm pretty clueless. Input is appreciated! :]
This is my first Orchid--by far my favorite. Maybe because I'm a freak for anything orange... The question is, what is it?
Then there's this big baby. I'm a sucker for yellow, too.

The first is def an Oncidium alliance inter-generic, but I will let someone with more experience chime in, and the second is a Cymbidium.

It is impossible to ID these and not good to attach a name unless you are sure. Cody is correct on the genus for each, but that's the best you can do.

You mentioned in one of your other threads that one of them was starting to look "droopy" - is this the flowers or the flower spike or the leaves, and which orchid? If it's the leaves, it might be a good idea to check out how the roots are looking.

Yes, it's my Oncidium. The leaves are just lacking a bit luster lately, and I think it may be because I haven't repotted it since I got it, and it's been about a year. I need to replace the mix and have a look at the roots to see what should be clipped away and all, if anything.

How much light does it get?
Watering regime?
Fertilising? (what, how much, how often)?
What's it potted in?

It gets quite a lot of light, however it is filtered through my window. I open the blinds daily, and occasionally I take them outside for about an hour while misting them regularly.
I water about once a week.
I have not used fertilizer on it at all. Is that mandatory, or can you continually grow a healthy Orchid without it?
It's potted in sphagnum moss.

Fertilzer is very important for orchid growth. Everything alive needs water and food.

Your Cymbidium is most probably Cym. Everglades.
Normally I would not name a plant from a photo but since you live in Florida and there are very few Cymbidium that will flower in Florida, it narrows the possibilities.
Cym. Everglades was the first heat tolerant Cymbidium developed and has been sold all over Florida. It can often be found in the big box stores like Lowe's.
If it has re-flowered for you than I would not hesitate to put the name to it. I do not know of any other bright yellows that are heat tolerant.
