Please help id my Dendrobium.. its re-blooming
I bought this dendrobium last June in East London's Columbia rd flower market. I think its a nobile hybrid of some kind. Now that its buds have opened I would really appreciate some help identifying its species.
Many thanks.

Hi Anna and welcome to Orchid Board
It has VERY big flowers for a nobile hybrid, but it could have been crossed with something else.
I can't see from the picture, but where do the flowers come from. Are they coming from a spike or are they coming from smaller stems off the dendrobium cane?

Hi Rosie
Its flowers are growing from small stems at the top of the cane. I've attached a photo of the buds before they opened.

OK, yeah they look like the ones you get on nobile types.
One thing to remember is that there are a lot of dens which have not been registered (just like Phals) and so an exact ID may not be possible, the main thing is to try and work out what type of Den it is so you can give it the right care.
As I said above the flowers seem a little large compared to the nobile types I've seen in the past, but it certainly isn't like the Den Phals or Staghorn types, it's much closer to nobile from what I can see.
Anyway, hopefully someone else with more knowledge on this will chime in soon.

On other thing, did you give it a winter rest and did it loose it's leaves over the winter.
nobile types need a winter rest and usually lose their leaves.

Thanks Rosie, I did give it a rest (hardly watered and stopped feeding) I also moved it to a cooler spot for a couple of months, but it didn't lose any leaves.

A beautiful soft cane Den, gorgeous colour. I have a few soft canes in bud at the moment. Some are budding on old leafless canes (2 years), some on last years canes. I find they rarely bud on the current years canes.

It's not a species, it's a hybrid, and impossible to identify which.
