Default Little octopus need help

Another mystery orchid bloom in my orchid garden despite the dry season. This one is a small flower with labellum width about half an inch. I'm not sure whether this is Encyclia cochleata since I never see one anyway and reference in internet describe the flower is larger than an inch.

And almost forgot to mention, the flower has a subtle fragrance of baby talc (powder). Similar to Dendrobium trilamellatum.

I agree. To me, the baby talc scent is spot on. Really nice flower, too.

I just got another plant to add to the list. I love the combination of dark purple and cream flowers. Very nice plant.

I have an encyclia green hornet that resembles that one also. My blooms aren't very big, either. Cute little blooms, though, huh?

That's the prettiest little flower. I've never tried growing this variety but I understand they have frequent blooms that are long lasting. What is their temperature requirements? I'm in zone 9 and grow everything outdoors. It might be too hot in my neck of the woods.

E. cochleata does great here in Florida as well as it's hybrids. If I'm not mistaken it's a Florida native.

Cool Beans! I've been real good and only purchased one orchid early this year. I think the time has come to purchase another. Thanks for the info. Roly.

Thanks guys. Now this little beauty won't be noid no more. It's narrowed down to Green hornet or cochleata.

Just wondering... I looked up at orchidspecies.com and both lancifolia and cochleatum are synonymous (crossed for Green hornet). It's been debated on OB also http://www.orchidboard.com/community...et-anyway.html
but I can't really take conclusion out of it.
