Default Is this a Renanthera monachica?

I bought a cutting of a plant labeled Ren. monachica a little over two years ago. It was about 18 to 24 inches long at the time.

It has grown like a weed, and now it is about 5 feet tall (see photo 1, taken about 6 weeks ago), and is producing beautiful sprays of fantastic blooms (in my opinion anyway).

Here is my dilemma...I am not sure if the plant is as tagged. I have seen other plants labeled Ren. monachica, and they do not resemble mine.

Does anyone have an thoughts on this? If it isn't Ren. monachica, do you know what it is?

Thanks, David

I have a renanthera monachica and that's not it. They have different growth habits. The monachica doesn't grow like that--it's much smaller than other renantheras.

The flower doesn't look like that at all either. The monachica has very spotted yellow and the flowers are smaller.

where did you buy it from?

I can almost bet it's a hybrid.....but it's definitely not a monachica.

Lemme know if you ever want to divide it. LOLOLOL It's absolutely gorgeous..I'm collecting renantheras.

(wink)

Thanks folks...I suspected that the tag was incorrect, and now it is confirmed.

Does anyone have any idea about what it might be?

Gotta love those spray of reddish orange color. I'm not sure about the ID but it looks like it has Renanthera storieii on its lineage.

Its a Renanthera monachica cross with a red one, probably Renanthera imschootiana x Renanthera monachica?

Default Hi

I’m not sure about how possible some of the things you mention would be, but there is one setting that may interest you, if you haven’t seen it already
