My Un-named beauties... :0( Male
Talking My Un-named beauties... :0(

Okay, my partner recently purchased five more orchids for me, but I'm extremely OCD about wanting to know the names of my plants... Well, these came from Lowe's, which is fine and dandy, but there were only generic tags indentifying the species of the orchids. I want to know what cultivar they are because I want to find out who my 'chids are, you know? LOL... I know there are umpteen bajillion hybrid varieties of orchids available, but if anyone recognizes one of these, will you let me know?

They came from Costa Farms and were supplied to Lowe's. Costa is the largest houseplant grower in the states, which is all good and great, but they haven't answered my inquiry to help identify my pretties. And I'm rather impatient, so I figured perhaps some 'chid friendly people could help ease my frustrations...

And I suppose since I'm running a thread whining about missing names, see if anyone might know this reed stem epidendrum. I know it's a hybrid reed and one parent plant was 'Solar Flare'. I can't find anthing else about it, though...

The reed stem epi is such a beauty and is an everbloomer and I would just love to have her name on record. It frustrates me to have nameless plants. I like to know their identities... LOL...

Unfortunately, hybrids are mass produced for the public and sometimes tags get lost, or they don't bother naming them thinking that people don't care enough to know (plus it saves time and cuts costs).

Having worked at a nursery I know how much of a pain it can be to make sure every plant had a tag.

Identifying NOID hybrids accurately are EXTREMELY difficult unless they're very popular hybrids. I did recommend a book to someone else who was asking for ID's on Phals. I don't remember the name of the book, but it is totally dedicated to Phalaenopsis. It's also a book that was relatively recently published with color photos and descriptions and ID's of species and hybrid Phals. You can try looking for it in major bookstores like Borders or Barnes and Nobles in their gardening section.

They are all beautiful!! Your Dendrobium looks quite similar to my Dendrobium 'Baby Pink' Mine seems to be a bit darker in color, though.

Okay, I found out what the book was thanks to another member of this board. "Moth Orchids: The Complete Guide to Phalaenopsis" by Steven A. Frowine. Check it out.

Thank the Lord! Perhaps I can find a name for some of them or at least a close relative and just say that's who they are... LOL... Thanks for the responses!
