I bought this yellow orchid today.
The salesman could only tell me, that it is a Epidendrum.
I can see that there is many different Epidendrums, with different needs, so I would like to now the name or type of my orchid, so I now how to take best care of it.
About the most I can tell you is that it's a reed-stemed Epi. They usually like bright indirect/diffused light water weakly/weekly when the weather warms up and repot it when the media starts to break down. The media I use for my epi's is a seedling mix that drains well. Hope this helps!
Yes it is a pretty little plant. I fell for it right when I saw it. This morning one more flower has opened.
The info helps. Thanks.
The salesman told me, that after the flowers had dropped, I shouldn't cut the flower stem. It could happen that it sends out new flowers from the old stem after a while.
I'm new into orchids and it's my first Epidendrum, so I don't know if that is specificc to this plant, or if all Epidendrums do this.
Some Epidendrums can bloom off the same stalk for many months. Good example of how long they can bloom, albeit different colors, it should have similar blooming habits (Note length of the top of the flower stalk)
I don't think this is a pure epidendrum. I'm just guessing because the flowers are "right-side up" (I can't remember which is which at the moment, resupinate or nonresupinate?). There are reed-stemmed Epi crosses with at least Sophronitis, if not others, and they have flowers that look more like yours. Still, I'd say give it reed-stem Epi care. Maybe someone with more experience and knowledge will chime in. Good luck!
I only have one NOID epi that hasn't bloomed yet and a keiki of a small yellow epi, so I'm just starting too.
