Default I don't think the tag Phal Wedding Promenade is correct.

Hello. Hoping someone out there has a clue as to this phal's id. It is labeled as a Phal. Wedding Promenade, but when I looked that one up online it was completely different from my plant. I just got it today. It is very tall with two spikes. The flowers are smallish for the size of the plant, very waxy with solid structure. The center of the flowers is showing magenta and peach, the flowers also have a greenish tinge. It looked like it just came, got it from Lowe's, still in a shipping wrapper. Couldn't pass it by for $20.

Hi Kim, I think you're right. I don't have an ID for you, but it sure isn't Wedding Prom.

That one looks just like my Phal. Brother Sara Gold 'Sogo' HCC/AOS. . .though yours looks a little more green and mine a little more gold.

Color on this photo is particularly accurate.

Kim is the lip purple as it shows in your picture or is it more magenta? My mind went in the same direction as Gwen's (oh! Nooooo! ), it looks a bit like my Brother Sara Gold. If the lip really is purple then I think it's something different that Brother Sara Gold but closely related. It's most definitely NOT Wedding Promenade, that much I can tell you.

Roh ROH, Quiltergal! Last time I actually thought about anything today (I am on vacation, mind you) it cost me nine Erin Pottery pots. It's not that I am not happy. . .I am just saying be careful. . .be very, very careful!

Now back to the problem at hand: Mine has an almost phosphorescent purple bit on the lip. . .it very nearly glows.

That's normal right?

I do believe that it is a very close resemblence to Phal Brother Sara Gold HCC/AOS. Check out this link and see if it's not an alike phal...

I have a wedding promenade but it is so different than yours and that is not saying mine is truely a wedding promenade, either. So the truth beknown my guess, no different than females or males having the same name but looking different

Gwen, it's definitely close to your plant. I don't know if it's exact, but it very well could be. The lip on mine starts with a lighter salmon/peach color and grows into a magenta color at the end. It has the glow look at the very tip. It's so different from my other phals. I swore I wouldn't get another big phal (due to space restrictions), but here I am! Thanks for the speedy replies...

Hi kimstwin,
I have to agree that your phal is not Wedding Prom.
I have no idea why but the big box stores seem to have a Wedding Prom. label in the majority of their plants. If not Wedding Prom. than it's Brother Little Yellow Boy. LOL
I've done a Lot of research on Wedding Prom. and *think* I traced it back to the original. You'll find a picture of it in my Phal. Album. I don't know if there is actually a way to tell what the original Wedding Prom. looked like, it has been seed crossed so many times.

I agree that it is is one of the Brother Sara hybrids, the waxy texture is a good clue.
What ever the name, it's beautiful and you know there is "always room for one more Phal"!!!!! (I adore them)
Al

Yes, I was very attracted to the substance and waxiness of the flowers. My other Phals have the velvety flowers. I had never seen this one at a big box store. When I looked online all the Brother Sara Gold plants were about $30 for a good size plant and $18 for NBS, so I am not disappointed!

Well here's my worth. Al hit the nail square on the head about big box stores, especially Lowes. And while he was sort of joking about the names, i.e., Wedding Prom or Little Yellow Boy, he is again on the money because 50% are WP and the other 50% are LYB!!!!!!! I would also agree that it is one of the many Brother Sara Gold hybrids and very nice at that. Enjoy your plant for its beauty and call it anything you want
