I saw this in my local Lowes while getting fertilizer for my fruit trees and, of course, it was not labeled but it sure caught my eye. I have never seen any lip so similar to the other petals.
anyone familiar with this kind of Phal? is this more common than i think?
This "big lip" type of Phal is very popular. It is sort of "reverse peloric" - the lip mimics the petals. Probably was a mutation, the breeders took it and ran with it, and produced quite a few hybrids with that characteristic.
I have never seen it and it was taken aback. It was in one of those super dumb "onamantal" displays where they jam an orchid and a bromeliad and a stick into a pot full of sphag with no drainage and charge 2x what the plants cost for the stupid pot.....
i may have to prowl the clearance racks for one of these in decline.
