Thank you Dirty Coconuts. A close relation is ok. I didn't even know it was an oncydium since my oncydiums are much smaller with tiny flowers. He always try's to buy the orchids with the best looking flowers.
He also got me the purple zygopetalem you mentioned in the background which was going to be my next 'what is it' post when the other spike bloomed since the current flowers are starting to fall. I have another zygopetalem but I could not compare them since the flowers already fell before I got this one.
There are so many different types of orchids out here in vegas for sale then there was when I lived in Delaware last year. I had mostly phals, catts, and dens. But since moving here I have found all kinds of beautiful varieties available. I never know what I'll get next, I just wish they had names on them.
The flowers look quite similar to a Wilsonara, recently renamed to...? But, yes, grow it as an Oncidium. You might name it for a loved one. But it's forever noid, unless you have the growers name on the tag and can call them.
I agree, its very similar to a couple of Wilsomara's, they are called Oncostele now..well it was last week. Most nurseries are still listing with the older names, but some have acknowledged the change.
