Phals in bloom
I've been growing since September of 2012 and this is the 1st year I've "summered" my orchids outside. What a difference! Of 10 phals, 3 are in bloom and 5 in spike. They totally did NOT do that last year! So here are the 3 in bloom. Only a couple buds open on each, so not real showy, but will post more pics later.
I LOVE that middle one! She sent out a spike UNDER a leaf, so grew horizontally. And grew - about 2 and 1/2 feet, with an "annex" spike above that flower you see! I think she looks rather exotic!
Not a clue what species these Phals are, but I like them.
Happy growing, friends!

This is my first year summering orchids outside as well for extended time frames. I have tried it with just a few Dendrobiums, phals, and oncidiums. So far so good. The phal I put outside was really struggling... Then I sunburned it from not having a shade cloth up! Now that it dropped those leaves it is growing a new upright leaf and root!
Good job with your plants and I also like the phal in the middle.

DeaC - they are Sun System T5s, 4 foot, 4 bulb: 2 bulbs are white and 2 are red, so they get close to the spectrum of the sun. So far, they work beautifully!
