Strange behaviour of NOID phal. Anyone knows what this is?
I bought this Phal without blooms and without a tag. Had no idea what it was going to look like and I have waited a whole year and a bit more for it to finally bloom. Now that it has I am not so sure I like it! . It kept Keiki Ing at the base of the plant and has abundant roots. Nice plant actually with silvery sharp leaves. Anyone knows what it is? In fact it had a strange root which was flat and about 2 cm think and which after I repotted about six months ago to try to encourage it to bloom formed part of the leaves/root system of a new Keiki. Here are a few pic of the plant.
Very pretty plant! Looks like a hybrid involving substantial contribution from pulcherrima, a species that often makes clumps of basal growths like this.
Doritis pulcherrima is now a Phalaenopsis, as it was the only species in the Doritis genus that genus, and the associated Doritaenopsis no longer exist.
That having been said, I agree with both comments above, that it looks to have a lot of influence from Phalaenopsis (Doritis) pulcherrima. Can't say exactly what it is though.
I have one that is the same growth habit and I also grow in a basket, but the flowers do not look the same. Mine is a Doritonopsis (dyah redita 'hawaii'). At first I didn't like the flowers, but it has really grown on me!
