free phals
yesterday i received two free phal orchids from walmart. it was quite a surprise. a friend of mine that works there brought them to me because they were the best out of the worst (does that make sense?) and another employee was getting rid of them since they werent going to sell either way.
any who, she's awesome.
im not sure if these are hybrid or species phalaenopsis orchids, so if anyone can recognize them and let me know by chance, that would be great.
also it looks like the green one is possibly maybe putting out another spike/branch.

They're hybrids. I highly doubt that wal-mart gets in species. Nothing wrong with hybrids, IMO! I think that hybrids are a good place to start for beginners, since species tend to be more touchy than hybrids are.
They are also very pretty! I really like the green one, my daughter has one that's similar and hers is a sequential bloomer (meaning that it puts out one bud, then it keeps adding new buds to the end of the spike.) It does look like yours is trying to branch to me.

They are very pretty, and they don't look to be in bad shape either!

In what way are species orchids more touchy? I hope its not too bad, there's plenty of species orchids I want.

It depends on the species really. And how they react to your grow environment.
Some of my hybrids are way more sensitive than some of my species.

Just as an example, I got my first species, phal bellina var. coerulea, in October and I'm growing it in the same conditions as my hybrids and it was doing nothing for me. It's not dying, but it's not growing either. Come to find out, after asking the fine folks here on the board, this particular species likes to be a bit warmer than my hybrids do and I had it sitting on the windowsill with my mini phals. They like it on the window sill, where it's a little cooler.
I moved it away from the window and it's started to perk up a bit.
