What are some of the reddest phal hybrids?
Are there multifloral phal hybrids which are "red" rather than pink?
I recently bought a Phalaenopsis Memoria Audrey Meldman 'Mendenhall', expecting a flower akin to:
source: Big Leaf Orchid forum • View topic - Phal. Memoria Audrey Meldman 'Mendenhall'
Instead, the orchid arrived in lovely full bloom... but the flowers were a distinct purple: see attached
Now I've heard that light intensity can impact how the color of a bloom develops, but I am now worried about purchasing other phal hybrids, expecting red flowers, and instead accumulating a collection of pink blooms.
I saw that Ben Belton recently posted a beautiful series of photos from Orchidview, including many brilliantly red phal flowers, like his picture here: http://www.benbelton.com/onlinepics/.../DSC01183a.jpg
Does anyone know about similar looking hybrids (red or orange-red flowers, with many blooms per spike) which I could actually find for sale online?
For example, this picture here is absolutely beautiful:
http://www.firstrays.com/Pictures_or...et_Blazing.jpg
But 1) I haven't been able to find the actual plant for sale. And 2) I can't tell of the actual flowers will look as intensely red as they do in the photo.
Any suggestions for red phals that can be found in the US, which are actually red?

There are many red phals but individual plants can vary in color. My best red has been Phal. Sogo Rose 'Sogo F-987' but I've seen many other good reds.

You might try a Cornu-cerva (spelling?). I understand that some are intensely red. Still waiting for my 4N clone to bloom though, and it looks like a nub is coming! Just not sure it's going to be a spike as its a bit early for it probably.

That's interesting about the Sogo Rose, and I think Orchids by Hausermann has one available. Is this one different from the flower you posted about here: Phal. Sogo Rose 'Sogo'.............. ?

Orchideya, wow. Those are spectacular. Now if only I could know if the pictures are honest...
For the first plant, your link is the only photo I could find online of the 'china cherry' plant. Pics of other plants from the same cross look distinctly pink on photos, though.

I'd e-mail the Nortons at Orchidview and ask for recommendations. Mr. Norton (H P) does the breeding and his wife Katherine I think runs the business. From my exchange about their blues, they're wonderful people.
Contact
Cheers.

I don't have a pic handy and I'm down to 2 flowers on it now, but a couple months ago it had I think 14 flowers total, nicely lined up, shingled symmetrically on both sides of each spike.
Also search for threads at the Big Leaf forums for Fancy Free 'Scarlet Spring' (Aileen Stoops x Corning's Violet) and look for JimL's recent pics of it there. Hausermann's has this now in several pot sizes. I bought one last week and it's just starting to bud.
