I rescued this little orchid from Lowe's a few years ago. I have had 2 keiki's develop on the flowering stem spontaneously over the years and its had at most 10 little flowers each year. The spikes didn't grow very large and curved over the front of the plant. They were so curved that I hadn't ever staked them.
This year I staked the spike ( very nervously ) and its grown about a foot tall and is branching. Looks as if there will be a lot of flowers. ( I'll post pictures later )
Does anyone else own this plant ? Have you found the same thing as I have ?
Mine I think is officially Taida Little Sunny. The label has 135380 CR after the name. I think CR stands for Certificate of Recognition. I haven't been able to google much else....
Try the royal orchid registry or something like that...it'll give you the lineage of your plant. I don't stake my plants. I grow under lights and the lifts cause the spikes to grow upright anyway so no stakes needed unless its a heavily flower spike. Either way I don't stake...looks more natural that way. Post pics soon!
Those numbers and letters on your tag are usually for a vendor or breeder's identification. If there was an award it will be the last item in the title like AM/AOS. Someone with Orchid Wiz can tell you whether or not your plant has been awarded.
I have Orchidwiz ( well the 30 day free version, for now ).
I was interested to hear from current owners of the plant as to what they have experienced. As an example - mine has never branched until this year - is this a sign of maturity, better cultivation techniques or typical ? As there is 29% equistris in the genealogy, I am trying to find out if this only makes itself apparent when the plant is mature ( multi-branch, multi flower influence )
