Phalaenopsis new growth
Default Phalaenopsis new growth

Dear friends,

I am Mani Nair from Bombay, India. I am interested in orchids, gardening, birding and butterflies.I am attaching the photos of a phalaenopsis which is 2 years old and not yet flowered. It is placed on a window sill east facing. In one photo (phal2) you will see one small growth between two roots which is there since three-four months and not growing at all. Kindly tell me whether is this a flower spike. If it is a flower spike what I have to do to get it grow and flower.
Waiting for your valuable answers.

Regards,
Mani Nair

I believe it's a flower spike.
Usually, when a Phalaenopsis doesn't (re)bloom, the causes are either insufficient light or temperature over 24 degrees C - or both. Your Phal looks healthy, so I wouldn't suspect other causes.
