Sorry for the little typo there! And I meant to say, it's a shame they're apparently not often awarded, when they're perfect for a (novice) grower like me. It hasn't stopped me from getting them, of course.
I have to admit, I have no idea which orchids get awarded, or what is looked for. In the case of this cross, maybe because it's too plain and widely hybridized??

That is probably why it's not awarded. I'm not going to try and figure it out but I DO know that to get a flower award like an AM (Award of Merit) the bloom has to be better than both parents, in a nutshell. An AOS judge told me that.

Chryss - That is close, the standard to be met is that it should be an improvement over one or both parents. Just remember, that is all very subjective.

Chryss - So far I want a keikei from your equestris, a division of your yet to be named JEM cross #9 or the one that you are planning on putting on the sales table. I'm sure there is more, I have to look at your photos again. I have to start figuring out what I have to trade that you will want a piece of. I'm sure I could entice you with a division of my schmidtianum and maybe a pileatum 'Imperiale'

COUNT ON IT, Glen !!!! Did I hear "barbatum' ????????? You KNOW I'm a push over for any with a beard like appendiculatum, arietinum, ariquemense, blackii, barbatum, carolinianum, cristatum, denticulatum, garnettianum, gladiatorium, juruenense, multifidum, osculatum, palmeirinhense, parguazense, rivularium, seccoi, semicirculatum, triodon, JUST TO NAME A FEW !!!!
But, of course, I'd SETTLE for a piece of your schmidtianum !!!
p.s. I'm tickled pink today as my Lovena has finally decided to spike for me and has 2 spike buds so far !!! Has 3 HUGE, fat, new growths !!! Also my saccatum, is in spike bud !!!!

Chryss - You must be hallucinating if you think you heard me say barbatum. lol I actually grow very few of the beardies, although with your influence I can see that changing. Okay, so you have a pileatum 'Imperiale' division and a schmidtianum division with your name on it waiting for dormancy to arrive. We will have to see what happens with the Judges before I decide about the ariquemense. The spike is just about fully open and judging isn't until Wednesday evening. If it doesn't hold up it will be another year before I can get it to them. I almost drove down to Delray to the judging at AOS headquarters yesterday but couldn't face the almost 5 hour drive just to possibly get a plant awarded. I may end up regretting that decision. I also may be coming into possession of a keikei or two of Phalaenopsis Christine Magro, which is (Phalaenopsis javanica X Phalaenopsis equestris). Another carrot to dangle in front of you.

I'm such an idiot, when you said barbatum, I didn't realize that you were referring to the barbatum complex of catasetinae. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
