The flower is very unique and beautiful. It is possible that it may grow more buds from the tip and continue blooming. I have Phal. Mahinhin 'Marianne' that puts out one or two long lasting flowers at a time but blooms throughout the year. Here is a picture. Oh, and the alba that I saw in your gallery is exceptionally nice.

I think it's a stunning flower! The rest will come with time.

Dear Ramon,
The plant has some genetic problems (irregular petal margins, etc.). Given the degree of spotting on the lateral sepals I would suspect some hybridization in the backgroud - maybe Cassandra (equestris x stuartiana) back-crossed to equestris. I agree, it doesn't do much for me. Hope that helps, Eric |
Hi Eric, I am also convinced this is not a pure equestris. As I said in my first entry, the shape is better than standard equestris, and in general too different for my taste. Additionaly, as you said, the margins of the petalss is a bit denticulated, which is typical pf hybrids of two plants not 100% genetically compatible...
However, this mericlone is sold as Paph. equestris 'Orange' both in the USA and Europe. I do not know where it originally comes from... I will give it a chance, for a second or third blooming, and see if it improves... if not, will get kicked out of my collection... :) |
That is a very pretty flower even if there are only two! Just admire and take pictures and I am sure it will have more buds next time. ;)
