cool...what phal is that? Some phals naturally produce keikis at the base. However, you might be interested to know that often times, basal keikis form when the mother plant is undergoing stress of some sort, either rot, or some other kind of general decline. Was this plant treated with keiki paste? Not sure if it's the photo or not, but those roots don't look too swell...sorry to rain on the parade!

Yay! I don't know if I remember right, but isn't that your phal that had crown rot? If so, that basal keiki is definitely very very good news!

Amanda congratulations, and so your phal lives on! alright!

General keiki question though... how long does it take for a keiki to grow roots?, not to steal Amanda's thunder but my phal (who DID go under a severe case of root rot) sent out one and i has 3 leaves but no roots and it has been a couple of months now... m:... thank you

I have a phal that almost died over the summer while in my sister's care so it's not in good shape but it decided to make a last ditch effort and make a keiki. The keiki had one root on it but we've had a bit of a cold snap here in florida and I guess it got a little too cold for it because it's one little root turned black and then fell off. I'm hopeing it will make more roots because the keiki's leaves, while small, still look healthy. Any thoughts?

Thanks Susanne . I'm so excited about this keiki.
Calvin, this Phal had some pretty nasty crown rot. It's bare root right now and I mist it 2x a day. I know the mother plant isn't going to live, but i refused to give up on getting a keiki from her!! She is such a beautiful Phal and I really wanted to keep her.

You remember correctly Camille! I treated that crown rot and packed it with cinnamon and look what she did to say thank you!

priz_m, I have no idea how long it will take for it to grow some roots. You will probably get roots before I do, so please, please let me know when you start to get some.

Thanks, Sonya!!!
