Hi Marrisa,

Your phal is called a "Peloric". It can happen because the plant was bred for this to happen or a genetic mutation happened to make the two petals resemble the third petal or "Lip" of the blossom.
As for a name, it is almost impossible to identify it. A NOID it will probably always be but you can call it anything you like!

I'm sure others will jump in with more detailed information. I've just scratched the surface.
Some folks like these blossoms, others don't, it's just a personal thing. I happen to like them and your plant sure looks healthy and happy!
Al

This a pic of a peloric that "looks" similar to yours. It is Phal Taipei Gold x Cassandra #2. So you might use this as a start and try to google parents and find something more like yours. Dorothy mihgt be helpful here...she loves it when I volunteer her services.....

Ahem .. Doc ..

Of course I am always happy to help ..
Marissa? did you get a name tag with this Phal or is it a NOID?

It is definitely peloric and the petal formation is known as 'lettuce-leaf' for the 'cupped' shape as mentioned by Al (Bird Song Farm) in this past thread - Help with Phal ID

See, Dorothy, I learned something from you today! I didn't know the shape was called 'lettuce-leaf'. I just thought it was peloric...or is it pyloric

It's only pyloric if it's growing out of the end of your stomach into your small intestine (the pylorus).
