My favorite quote from RockLilyMan's site:
"One day you might end up growing D. speciosum like I do. But you really ought to be setting your sights on far higher levels of achievement."

When my greenhouse experienced "the big freeze" that killed everything, but led to the start of First Rays, Rod Venger (of the former Venger's Orchids of Colorado Springs) sent me a 'hillii' in a 2" pot, to help me get restarted. I'm really not a Den fan, so it was basically just kept with the catts and ignored.
About ten years later, then in a 14" basket, it bloomed, with 18" canes and 36" inflorescences. I later gave it away to a grower in Aiken SC, where it has become even bigger, and the spikes are closer to four feet in length.
It is the only dendrobium I have ever grown.

See, if you are acting on impulse, not using your focused wish list, this is what happens. One would think by now, I would be over these mistakes. Ten years...will I even have a sense of smell by then?

I hope your not sorry you bought it. I'd be thrilled, I think there beautiful. I have indeed thought about getting one. I'm just running out of room. Goodness I didn't think I would ever say that. I thought I had all the room in the world
Thanks Roberta, I kinda thought that. They are cute things. One of mine has been blooming for a while now as it did have 4 spikes this time around. I think it's the 3rd time blooming.

ummm... it's fun, not a job? It's OK to find something else you like that you didn't know about? Maybe you'll so fall in love with these things you'll become the Rock Lily Tuxedo Cat Lady?

Now, there's a thought...hopefully when we move, I'll have more space! My Epi radicans (covered in spikes) will have to move over. Thanks all, you guys are a treasure trove of information.

Never enough room, always room for one more.
For major flower power on a somewhat smaller plant (with more spikes so that the whole plant is in bloom longer) consider Den. Delicatum (same as Specio-kingianum and x-delicatum) Combines the best feature of both parents.

Probably a dumb question, but what is a "bag baby?"

Generally Lowe's has a tray or two of 2.5" or 4" orchids in cellophane bags. They are assorted kinds from Sun-Bulb and for sale at a very reasonable price. I think the 2.5" are $6.98 and the 4" are $12.98. Anyway, many of us "visit" the orchids when we go there and come home with bag babies. And sometimes, if you are lucky, they have just been marked down on the discount table and you get the thrill of rescuing them.
