spike or kekki??
Default spike or kekki??

so my dendrobium kingianum is getting sharp purplish buds on the canes. any way to tell if they will be spikes or kekkis??

I suppose you mean right now, ha ha.

It is bud season and it is also keikii season. You probably need to wait a while, unless you can post a photo one of the kingianum experts can see.

Dendrobium kingianum blooms from apical inflorescences. "Bumps" on the pseudobulbs - if at the base - are either the emergence of roots, or the swelling of the "eyes" (rhizome leads) indicating new growths. That is not a keiki, but just the way the sympodial growth occurs. Keikies tend to form at the top of the pseudobulbs, instead of flower spikes, especially if the culture is incorrect.
