Updated photos!

Check it out... the plant on the left is now breaking bud! Still a month early. The scent is heavenly around here - these guys really can smell up the house

A couple things going on here - the Miltonidium on the left bottom has spikes much longer than last year and still growing. I project an April bloom and the spikes are already 34"-36" long!

The NOID Phal is on the bottom in the right hand view and doing well. Also, it has turned out I have two mini Epidendrums, not one (as per a past post I made). They are in upper right on right-hand photo.

Enjoy.

Ross,

I recently ordered a den. anosmum, can't wait for it to arrive!

What type do you have? - I love how they look. I think there are two different versions... if I remember correctly.

I've never heard of two versions (not that I doubt you). I got mine from Dendrobium (den-DRO-bee-um): Camp Lot A Noise Tropicals Wow! I just learned they have a varietal here ('semi alba') but mine was the species. I'm sure you will get a goodie either way.

Also be sure to treat it the way it wants. Come Halloween, start withholding all water and fertilizer. Up till then keep up the fertilizer. You should see leaves start to turn yellow and fall off. Totally normal. Let it go totally dry till end of Feb or early Mar. when you see buds develope along the last year's defoliated shoots. You should also see little green shoots starting at top of those shoots - those are new growths for the next year. The flower buds and the new green growths occur at same time. Start watering and fertilizing at that time. I start with every-other-day for a couple weeks till I see roots start turning green when watering. Then I sock-it-to-them with daily soakings. Be careful with the cane(s) with buds because the buds can be damaged easily from mishandling. Good choice on a Dendro!

Ross,

Just found this thread... about the different varieties of anosmum... quite interesting.

Orchid Spring Discussion Board: Dendrobium anosnum alba?

Wonder which one I'm getting...

Thanks for the information on the care of the plant, hopefully it's applicable to the one I'm receiving.

Frank

Beautiful photos - I really want one now but I don't have the room either for them. How long do these flowers typically last? (I love your grow area by the way!)

The flowers on the first one were fully out approx 4th week of Feb. and will last maybe till April. These can get really large with canes up to 60" or so if grown properly with a long season, plenty of humidity and light and fertilizer. They are really pushing my grow area and I hope this year the canes don't get much longer.
