But even then, I water every week - 10 days or so. It's potted in pumice and perlite only, so that may dry faster than media others use ... ? I can't remember if you grow victoria-reginae ? If so, water about the same as that in winter - let it get slightly dry; can be dry for a couple of days, but then water and fertilize normally.

I hope I am not steering you wrong! But, mine's bloomed fabulously with this treatment. Can't hurt to try, right? Let me/us know how it goes!
Not to worry about steering me wrong. I always like to hear tips from successful growers and realize your conditions may not be the same as mine. Mine does get fairly hot dry weather here. It is grown in a heated greenhouse. In winter I place it near the bottom of the patio door along with the nobile Dens. Maybe that is too cold although they don't freeze. I will just increase the water a bit and the fertilizer and see what happens. I don't grow victoria-reginae but if I ever see one I might have to get it

Now that is impressive! Thanks for the information on how you grow yours. I will take it into consideration. Mine stopped blooming profusely 2 years ago and I thought I knew why the first year, but this year proved me wrong. Always good to hear how others grow given their climate and conditions.

I will be interested to hear how it goes for you!
Mine gets down to freezing (sheltered) occasionally at night for short periods.

Good luck!

I know I'm bring up an old thread but your plant is so AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is phenomenally good growing Sonya, it's just WOW to see. I just came across this when you posted the link to it in a different thread today.

Makes me want to try again with this species. I had one, would get a couple spikes off of it every year, and then left it at my mother's for the winter (back when I lived in a simple student room) and it never made it to spring... A shame, it was getting to be a fairly large plant. You are such a bad (good?) influence on me... First I got the Den victoria-reginae, now I'm getting a kingi....

Thanks, Camille

We'll have to see how well it blooms next year - early this year I found a mealy bug on it, so isolated it in a spot that gets less sun than its usual spot - and I never returned it ... I can see the beginnings of some spikes now, but can't say yet of there will be as many ...

Ha! I am happy to be a bad (good?) influence on you
