well, I made the title sound like it was dead before.
This lovely plant lost all its roots due to poor potting media. All the dendroiums from Hawaii were potted in course material, which suit these guys right, but the ones I bought from the local grower were all in some kind of wet spongy material.
I wonder how these plants survived and flowered so nicely in such condition. Well, mine was in bloom for months! then I realized the potting media was too wet so I completed dried out the pot and took the plant out after flowers were all gone.
I trimmed off all the roots (they were all dead) and kept it dry. All the leaves except for one remained and the cane started to get wrinkles some.
I misted everyday. then finally one dormant eye has started to swell. I cut this largest can with swelling eye and stand it in a empty pot for now. I'm not sure if I should plant this upright or wait for the little plant to develop and sever it from the cane to pot seperately.
The other two canes are laid on wet moss. I hope they will make some keikis sooner or later.
love this plant and very very happy to see this happening!
Last two pictures show what this plant looked like last fall.
